Talk by Dr. Robert Butts
The Danube River links cities that have been the centers for some of the most beloved music ever composed! Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, and Prague were home to famous composers such as Maher, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Liszt, Schubert as well as less familiar composers Salieri and Hummel. As a conductor, seeing the places where the works of these icons were composed and/or premiered was the experience of a lifetime. Join Bob for a talk about his "once in a lifetime" journey and how his visit provided him with greater insight into the composers' works, as well as a greater understanding of the symphonies, concertos, and operas that were inspired by the region.
Presenter: Dr. Robert Butts, artistic director and conductor of the Baroque Orchestra of NJ, teaches at Montclair State University, The Caspersen School of Graduate Studies at Drew University and the NJ Council for the Humanities.
